What a joke!

If you live in Australia, you must have been living under a rock not to have heard about David Hicks. For those of you that dont know, he is an Aussie who turned his back on everything Australia stands for & went to fight “with” terrorists against our way of life.  Tough luck, he was caught red handed with the enemey & locked up in Guantanamo.  Did we weep for him then? No. We were disgusted.

Year after year the Hicks family & their supporters got more vocal about the lack of a fair trial. In the beginning I dismissed them, after a few years I could see their anxiety at the lack of trial, by the 4th year I actually started to feel for them.  But “them”, the “family”.  Did I feel anything for the man himself?  Nope.  Not a thing. We have one of the greatest countries & lifestyles on this planet, and he turned his back on us.  “Death to the infedels!” he supported. Well kiss my ass Hicks!  Suffer in Guantanamo.  Dont you ever dare presume to dictate how I should live with your thug like tactics!

Well, he got his trial. He’s due home apparently this week to finish his sentence, and apparently due for release this year. But still his father isn’t happy with that.  Apparently he thinks the Federal Govt should still be wiping up after his sons mess.  I gotta say, I can think of bloody better things to spend my hard earned tax dollars on that a terrorist!  Let’s see…. education? health? or better yet… border protection!  (Just in case David decides to invite any of his mates to come visit!)

And what pisses me off even more…..  No remorse!

“The last thing on our mind at the moment is asking what David was doing there, I mean that is part of history,” Mr Hicks said.

What the fuck!  I sometimes begin to wonder if the wrong person was in jail!

But hell…. who am I to whinge.  I’m a low man on the pole.  I get up each day, work to survive & pay the tax man so that he can provide a good place for my family to grown up in.  Let’s all feel sorry for the assholes that can’t recognize a good thing when they see it!

I dont think anyone is naive enough to think that people will never make mistakes or bad decisions (I’ve made enough in my time!), however, I don’t expect for others, or myself to pay for your mistake. You do the crime.  You do the time.

A man recently got released from prison after doing over 30 years in jail for a crime it has been proven he didn’t commit.  It was barely blinked at.  He was deaf & dumb.  He’s lived in a confined area for most of his life in silence.  Innocent. If I am going to cry in my beer over anyone, it will be him.

    More importantly… is he sorry?

I’d like to see the story revisited in a year’s time, to see what is happening in his life. Just to see if he was worth all the hoo haa.
